Dogwoof acquires Diaz’s “Motherland”

UK distributor Dogwoof has picked up award-winning Ramona Diaz’s Motherland, which will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Documentary competition later this month.

The 94-minute feature takes the audience into the world’s busiest maternity hospital in the Philippines, one of the poorest and most populous countries in the world. As the film progresses through the hallways and corridors, and viewers witness the conversations between consultants and specialists, the lives of Lea, Aira and Lerma take central focus as they share their stories with other patients and hospital staff.

The deal was negotiated between Dogwoof and Diaz with the distributor handling world sales across all platforms.

The Sundance Documentary Fund, Catapult Film Fund, Chicken & Egg Pictures and POV/ITVS funded the production of Motherland.

“The busiest maternity ward in the world, what an amazing concept, and what a wonderful execution by Ramona. She presents an incisive, revealing and ever so touching commentary on her birth country which will impact on anyone who watches it,” said Dogwoof CEO Anna Godas in a statement. (Via Realscreen)
